Basketball recruiting: Braylon Mullins' stock soaring, more Indiana risers, what's next?

July is a hectic month for high school basketball with three evaluation periods for Division I college coaches to watch high school prospects. The first four-day period ended Sunday with the second coming this week from Friday to Sunday, then a third window from July 23-25 for coaches to evaluate only at the NCAA College Basketball Academy events.

Here are four storylines involving in-state prospects coming out of the first evaluation period:

Braylon Mullins’ stock continues to skyrocket

Greenfield-Central star Braylon Mullins did nothing to change the trajectory of his rising stock at the Adidas 3SSB Palmetto Road Championship in Rock Hill, S.C.

The 6-6 Mullins averaged 18.1 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists in seven games against top-level competition for his Indiana Elite team. Mullins shot 25-for-66 (37.9%) from the 3-point line for the week as Indiana Elite reached the championship game, losing 61-51 to the Utah Prospects in the title game.

Charlie Hughes impressions: Braylon Mullins is the real deal, top teams, other standouts

INSIDER: I saw a lot of basketball at Charlie Hughes. These players impressed me.

Mullins, who is now ranked No. 23 in the country in the 2025 class by 247Sports , picked up an offer from Duke on Sunday, obviously a major development in his recruitment. Two days earlier, Arkansas coach John Calipari offered. Mullins, along with Indiana Elite teammates Trent Sisley and Malachi Moreno, will attend the Adidas 3SSB All-American Camp at Overtime Elite in Atlanta from Friday to Sunday, then potentially put out a top-10 list.

Mullins currently has these official visits set:

    ▶ UConn, Aug. 1-2

    ▶ Michigan, Sept. 6-8

    ▶ North Carolina, Sept. 13-15

    ▶ Indiana, Sept. 20-22

    ▶ Tennessee, Oct. 18-20

    ▶ Kentucky, Oct. 25-27

It appears likely at this point Mullins will look to get an official visit in at Duke and could also visit Arkansas, Kansas and Purdue, or some combination of those. But the schedule is getting full for Mullins, who will be one of the leading contenders for IndyStar Mr. Basketball going into his senior season at Greenfield-Central.

Jeffersonville’s Tre Singleton a high riser

Jeffersonville’s 6-8 Tre Singleton has made the most of his summer. Since Friday, Singleton has added scholarship offers from Butler, Charlotte, Clemson, DePaul, Louisville, Notre Dame, Purdue, Wake Forest and Xavier. … and counting.

Singleton, who broke into the 247Sports rankings for the 2025 class at No. 238 overall and the No. 10 player in the state, is still probably a bit underrated by the national services. He had offers from Appalachian State, Ball State, Coastal Carolina, Eastern Michigan, Furman, Georgia State, IU Indianapolis, Kent State, Miami (Ohio), Northwestern, Richmond, Saint Louis, Valparaiso, Western Carolina and Western Kentucky coming into July.

Singleton averaged 14.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists as a junior for Jeffersonville. His only current official visit is for Northwestern, though that will certainly change considering his new offer list.

Preseason No. 1? Loaded Jeffersonville sends a message at Charlie Hughes.

    Justin Kirby makes a jump

From the “it seems about time” files: Fishers’ 6-4 guard Justin Kirby added mid-major offers from Ball State, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio since Friday. Kirby, who averaged 5.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game last season for the Class 4A state champions , had previous Division I offers from Eastern Illinois and IU Indianapolis.

Kirby, always an outstanding athlete, has refined his skill as a ballhandler and shooter. He played well at the IBCA’s Charlie Hughes Showcase last month and should be in line for a strong senior season for the Tigers.

    What’s coming next

▶ I’d look for Crispus Attucks 6-8 senior Dezmon Briscoe to cut his list by Tuesday. Briscoe, the two-time City Player of the Year , has offers from Butler, Cincinnati, DePaul, Iowa and Xavier, among others. Briscoe averaged 14.3 points, 10.8 rebounds and 4.2 blocked shots as a junior for the Tigers. Interesting that some of those same schools are in the mix for Marion County Player of the Year Azavier Robinson of Lawrence North. The 6-1 guard has official visits set for DePaul (Sept. 6-8), Xavier (Sept. 14-16), Notre Dame (Sept. 20-22) and Butler (Sept. 26-28) and is also considering Cincinnati in his top five.

▶ Nike’s EYBL Peach Jam is underway in North Augusta, S.C., where the 17U Indy Heat team is 1-1 going into Tuesday’s game against Brad Beal Elite. The Indy Heat will play two more games on Thursday and Friday before getting into bracket play on Saturday and Sunday. That Indy Heat team features Jalen Haralson (La Lumiere), Brady Koehler (Cathedral) and Jack Smiley (Valparaiso). Haralson is a coming off helping USA to a gold medal in the 17U bracket. Haralson, ranked No. 13 by 247Sports, has official visits for Indiana (Aug. 30-Sept. 1), Notre Dame (Sept. 6-8) and Michigan State (Sept. 13-15).

▶ The only current in-state 2025 player currently committed is Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian’s 6-8 forward Kellen Pickett, who pledged to Wright State earlier this month. Who will be next? There will be a lot of dominoes to fall in the coming weeks.
