MONROE COUNTY Ind. — The Indiana Department of Homeland Security and U.S Small Business Administration will open Disaster Loan Outreach Centers in Monroe and Vigo counties for residents affected by last month’s storms.

Individuals are encouraged to file claims to determine if they qualify for low-interest disaster loans from the SBA. Certain businesses that were also impacted by the June 25 storms may also be eligible for economic disaster relief, according to the news release.

Monroe County safety officials assess damage after storms leave thousands without power

The storms left thousands of residents in Bloomington and other portions of southern Indiana without power as the severe weather damaged multiple public structures and downed trees alongside power lines. Several homes were reported to have been damaged in Owen, Vigo and Clay counties as well after straight-line winds rolled through.

Customer Service workers with the SBA will be available at each location to answer questions regarding the loan program and to offer assistance with completing applications. IDHS staff will also be available to outline the steps involved in applying for the Indiana State Disaster Relief Fund, an alternative option for families and businesses deemed ineligible to apply for SBA loans.

Affected individuals and businesses have until Sept. 16, 2024, to submit applications reporting property damage while a date of April 17, 2024, has been set for those applying for Economic Injury Loans.

The centers will open at two separate locations starting at 12 p.m. on Monday, July 22 and be available until Aug. 5, 2024. More information on their locations and hours of operation can be found below.
