Hennepin County search crews have recovered a body and a vehicle from the Minnesota River.

Crews pulled the vehicle, with the body inside, from the river in Bloomington. It was reportedly 24 feet underwater and strong currents hampered search efforts.

Major Shane Magnuson heads up the water patrol unit for Hennepin County. He says the vehicle was seen going into the river Sunday night and they've been searching since, but the conditions made it difficult.

"Both because of the rain we had, and the bottom and location of the river, make all of it extremely difficult," says Magnuson.

He says the body's been taken to the medical examiner's office to determine the person's cause of death and identification.

According to the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, someone saw the vehicle go in the river Sunday. Those early attempts to get to the vehicle were unsuccessful.

Crews are also working to pull a second vehicle out of the fast-moving river but it's believed that the incidents are unrelated.

The vehicle was removed from the river late Tuesday morning. Investigators are working to determine what happened.

The department is also warning that very fast currents and high water levels make for a dangerous situation and that anyone who enters the water should be wearing a life jacket.
