Fire Department responds to Dawsonville Walmart
The Walmart in Dawsonville is closed due to a partial roof collapse possibly caused by heavy rainfall Wednesday morning. Troy Leist, Emergency Services and EMA Director for Dawson County Fire & Emergency Services told Smoke Signals, "We were dispatched to a smoke investigation. Upon our arrival, store staff said they had a major roof leak and water was pouring into the main electrical room as well as a large portion of the sales floor."
Athens Area Humane Society offers free vaccines to 200 pets
The Athens Area Humane Society is hosting a free pet vaccine clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at the facility at 1030 Mitchell Bridge Road. The clinic will operate on a first-come, first-served basis and is limited to the first 200 pets from households in Clarke, Jackson and Madison counties.
Kennesaw Parks & Recreation Donates 1,500 School Supplies to Students
Kennesaw Parks & Recreation donated over 1,500 pieces of school supplies at the Back 2 School Jam on July 13 to support local students preparing for the upcoming school year. The supplies included book bags, pencils, pens and glue sticks. Kennesaw Parks & Recreation provided school supplies for 300 families in the community. In addition to providing essential school supplies, the event offered various health screenings to local students such as general health, postural and vision screenings. Parents had the chance to connect with local organizations that offer support throughout the school year and access to a variety of vendors providing services at no charge. The Back 2 School Jam featured face painting, inflatables and jewelry making. It also presented an exclusive opportunity for early registration for the next season of Kennesaw Hoops Youth Basketball. Resident registration will open on Aug. 5 and non-resident registration will open on Aug. 12.
