BLUEFIELD, WV (WVNS) — A late-night motorcycle pursuit ended in fatality on the night of July 13th in Bluefield, West Virginia.

UPDATE: Horseback rider identified in fatal accident

Bluefield police pursued one motorcyclist through the city after he was clocked by a police officer going way over the speed limit.

Lieutenant Brian Copenhaver detailed the chase.

“Clocked him at 95 miles an hour via radar. Turned on the vehicle, at which point, the driver increased speeds, travelling in and out of traffic. He had turned right onto Leatherwood, then onto College, travelling at very high rates of speed. My understanding is that before the officer could catch up to him, he had wrecked on Maryland Avenue.” said Lt. Copenhaver.

Lieutenant Copenhaver said the driver was taken to WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

The driver’s name has not yet been released pending family notification, though Copenhaver confirms that the driver was wanted in multiple states on numerous felony charges.
