New Rules for Farm Use Vehicles Begins July 1, 2024
~ Vehicle owners must purchase and display DMV-issued placard before July 1 ~. The Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (VDACS), Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and Virginia State Police (VSP) encourage farmers to ensure their eligible farm use vehicles are compliant with the new farm use tag required by Virginia law that becomes effective on July 1, 2024. The new law requires unregistered farm use vehicles to display a DMV-issued permanent farm use placard on panel trucks, pickup trucks, and sport utility vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) under 7,500 pounds.

Severe Weather Hits Several Counties Late Sunday
Several area counties received storm damage late Sunday afternoon this on the Memorial Day weekend as severe weather moved through. In Glasgow people at a campground near James River Road and Recreation Lane were temporarily trapped as trees fell from the very high winds. “While working on scene, Chief 2 was notified by staff that a second tree had fallen on a cabin with occupants still inside. Units made their way to the cabin and were able to clear the entrance and assist the occupants out.” Glasgow VFD said in a Facebook post.

Nelson : County Treasurer Announces Retirement After 30+ Years Service
“After more than three decades of commitment to the citizens of Nelson County, Angela Hicks will retire as Nelson County Treasurer effective August 1, 2024. She was elected Nelson County Treasurer in November 2011. Prior to her career as Treasurer, Hicks served Nelson County in various roles within the county government. In 1990 she was employed as a counselor for the county’s summer recreation program. “Virginia State Police is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Friday (May 10, 2024) at 10:30 a.m. on Piedmont Road in Nelson County. A 2000 Honda CR-V was driving northbound on Piedmont Road, near its intersection with Galilee Road, when the vehicle crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left, struck a tree, and overturned.
Good Night Marilyn, Rest In Peace My Friend
I met Marilyn Shifflett of Nellysford many years ago. I can’t tell you exactly when, but it’s been over 10 of the 20 years we’ve lived here permanently. I didn’t really get to know Marilyn and become closer to her until the looming threat of the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) became a very real threat to majestic mountains of Nelson County. You can’t think about the ACP and the opposition to it without thinking of Marilyn Shifflett. She was a tireless crusader against the pipeline, and in the end, in great part to her efforts, Dominion finally gave up and pulled the plug on the ACP.
