Saying Good-Bye : Margaritas Restaurant Closes After Nearly A Decade
Just shy of ten years. Nine and some change to be more precise. That’s how long Gibran Carnevali (known to locals as just “G”) and the crews at Margaritas in Nellysford have been cranking out food and drinks to locals and tourists. The final drink was poured and the final meal was served this past Sunday night, October 29th as the popular Mexican restaurant closed forever.

TRAFFIC ALERT : NELSON : Semi Accident On Route 151 (ROADWAY OPEN AS OF 12:08 PM)
10:18 AM Update : Highway still down to one lane as logs and trailer are removed from side of road. Just after 6 AM Thursday morning a tractor trailer accident along Route 151 in Afton has slowed traffic. The semi, believed to be a logging truck, went over the east side of 151 and down an embankment in the area close to Goodwin Creek Farm & Bakery.

“Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal crash in Amherst County. The crash occurred Sept. 24, 2023, at 8:34 p.m. at the intersection of Dillard Rd. and Thomas Rd. According to witness statements, a 2010 Nissan SUV was traveling on Thomas Rd. when it failed to stop at the posted stop sign, ran off the road and struck an embankment along Dillard Rd.

Effects Of Ophelia Causing Power Outages For Some – Update
AS of 10:45 AM the number of customers without power is down to approximately 50. As expected some people lost power Saturday morning. The cause is most likely high winds caused from tropical storm Ophelia churning off of the eastern coast of Virginia. CVEC had warned customers on Friday this might be the case.

On Saturday, August 12, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. take a step back in time to learn about education, entertainment, and farming in Amherst County during the Colonial Era. Colonial Interpreters will demonstrate blacksmithing, silversmithing, coopering, flax dressing, and spinning. There will also be Revolutionary War soldiers and civilians in camp, colonial music, a physician/surgeon, and a fifer and drummer to facilitate military drilling and marching.
Meeting About Route 151 Growth Draws Big Crowd
For a Friday night in Afton, you could call it a packed house. An estimated 80 to 100 people filled the meeting room at the Rockfish Valley Volunteer Fire Department to hear about the continued growth along Route 151 through the Rockfish Valley corridor. The underlying theme of the meeting by organizers of Concerned Citizens For Nelson 151 Corridor and those attending, could be loosely described as, “We don’t want to become what’s happened in Crozet.” The primary discussion centered around Nelson County’s Comprehensive Plan (a blueprint for the future growth) and a Virginia Urban Development Area designation as it would pertain to the Nellysford area.
