BLUFF CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) – Longtime football coach and founding father of the ‘air raid’ offense, Hal Mumme, is set to join Sullivan East football as an assistant this season.

Vitello to be guest analyst for 2024 MLB Draft

Patriots head coach, JC Simmons, confirmed to News Channel 11 that Mumme will play an offensive analyst-type role with the team in 2024.

“His knowledge of the game around our program is going to be awesome,” Simmons said via text on Friday.

Mumme, 72, began his coaching career at the high school level in his home state of Texas in 1976. He’s had college head coaching stints at Iowa Wesleyan, Valdosta State, Kentucky, Southeastern Louisiana, New Mexico State, McMurry and Bellhaven.

Mumme is widely credited with helping create the now-popular “air raid” style of offense, that features a heavy dose of passing plays.

He is expected to join the Patriots for preseason practice by the middle of next week, Simmons said.
