Actor Spencer James Milligan, who brought warmth and adventure to generations of viewers through the role of Rick Marshall in the children's sci-fi series "Land of the Lost," which aired in the 1970s, has died at the age of 86.

It's Milligan who really etched the portrait of Rick Marshall, the fearless father who takes his kids Will and Holly through a mysterious world. The Kroffts created this bizarre series with tales of the Marshall family tussling with dinosaurs and encountering a race of reptilian creatures, the Sleestak.

More Than "Land of the Lost"

Milligan's career didn't stop there. Prior to "Land of the Lost," he did stage work and guest-starred in many TV series throughout the 1970s. He also appeared in films like "Sleeper" in 1973 and "The Photographer" in 1974.

Even after leaving "Land of the Lost" due to a dispute over merchandising rights, Milligan continued acting. Throughout the 1980s, he graced the screens of classic shows like "Gunsmoke" and "The Bionic Woman."

A Passion for Sharing the Craft

It was in the 1990s that Milligan's passion for acting became a real turn in his life. He began teaching acting at Adam Roarke's Film Actors Lab in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and would instruct aspiring actors like Benton Jennings. At the same time, he never stopped producing plays locally, where he could pass on the excitement of telling stories to the audience.

A Legacy of Warmth and Wonder

Spencer James Milligan left more legacy than his filmography. Fans who met him at conventions in later years spoke of his heartfelt warmth and sincere appreciation for the impact he had on their lives. He leaves a veritable treasure trove of memories for all those growing up viewing him, remembering through example what the strength of family and magic are in adventure.

Rest in peace, Spencer James Milligan. You will be sadly missed so much.
