Sebastopol Considering Upping Sales Tax Over Budget Concerns
The city of Sebastopol is considering raising its sales tax as it works to fill a two-point-nine-million-dollar budget hole. The city could add a measure to November’s ballot asking voters to approve a quarter-cent or half-cent sales tax bump. The city is also proposing several funding cuts, including cuts to the Sebastopol Area Senior Center, Ives Pool and Sebastopol Community Cultural Center. Other proposed cuts include holding off on filling two open positions in the police department. The city will hold two town halls to gather public input on the proposals. The first one is set for next Monday, and the second one is slated for two days later on Wednesday.
Meth Pipe and Psilocybin Mushrooms Found During Rohnert Park Traffic Stop
A traffic stop in Rohnert Park leads to an arrest for a meth pipe and psilocybin mushrooms. Over the weekend, Andrew Bailey was pulled over for a license plate light violation. As he was out on probation, Bailey was subject to be searched for violations. During the search, officers found the pipe and mushrooms in the glove box of the vehicle. Bailey was cited to appear for possession of controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Fireworks and Handguns Recovered During the 4th of July in Santa Rosa
Santa Rosa Police was especially busy for the 4th of July holiday. Last Thursday, over 2,000 non-emergency and 911 calls were made on the Fourth of July holiday due to illegal fireworks use and an uptick in other alcohol-related and violent crime calls. Hundreds of pounds of fireworks throughout the day and night with large groups of people throughout Santa Rosa gathered to set off illegal fireworks. MLK Park on Hendley Street had the largest concentration of people at one point, with over 200 spectators. One man suffered a severely broken arm while handling fireworks at the park. Police also arrested two people, including a juvenile, for illegally possessing a handgun.

A controversial housing law just hit SF. This is the first major project to take advantage
San Francisco could soon see 200 new homes in Duboce Triangle enabled by a controversial state law aimed at spurring faster housing development across California. Developer representatives filed a notice of intent with the city to build a 23-story apartment building at 1965 Market St. that takes advantage of Senate Bill 423, a state law that kicked in at the end of June to fast-track new housing. The apartment tower— slated to include 200 residential units—could be the city’s inaugural project to take advantage of SB 423 benefits like bypassing discretionary hearings and waiving environmental reviews.
