WASHINGTON PARISH, La. ( WGNO ) — The Louisiana State Police is investigating a crash that killed a 70-year-old driver in Bogalusa on Tuesday, July 9.

Troopers said that at 3 p.m., they were called to the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 10 near Twin Pines Road.

An investigation revealed Leon Curry Jr. was headed west on the highway in a GMC Sierra when, for reasons unknown, he went off the road and crashed into a culvert.

Curry, who troopers said was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.

An investigation into the crash remains ongoing as toxicology results are pending.

“While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being injured or killed in a crash. Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce crash injuries,” said LSP Troop L.
