Officials at Mount Bohemia, a hidden gem for Michigan skiing, recently announced that their terrain is expanding in the form of several new glades.

In a post to Instagram, with drawings on their trail map for a tangible look at where the expansion is taking place, officials wrote, “we are adding four more glades for this winter.” See below.

The new runs are being referred to as 'The Far East'. They're shown in red on this snippet from Mount Bohemia's expansive trail map.

The post also broke down the different parts of the new terrain, specifically, detailing that this new section is called the Far East and “is taken from the original Bohemia back country skiers like Bohemia trail designer Bunde Sean who called the eastern terrain at Bohemia the near east (Outerlimits)... beyond that, it was called the Far East.”

We called up Lonie Glieberman, President of Mount Bohemia Ski Resort, to get a better sense of what is going on at the resort and why this expansion is happening now.

"The guest always wants to see more terrain," Lonie explained. "Our job is to try and deliver that. Nat Williams, one of our pro patrollers, found some really great terrain this last winter, so it made sense to add it. We were already talking about that area and then he explored it and found that terrain."

According to officials at Bohemia, this new section of terrain will start right at the entrance to Mordor but will go 90 degrees to the east into the next valley over.

Mount Bohemia is known for hundreds of acres of pristine powder-filled glades. There's nothing like it in the entire region.

Right now, the new terrain is scheduled to open this Christmas. The Bohemia team hasn't begun cutting the glades, but Glieberman explained the process should only take about a month. "Glade terrain is much simpler than open runs," he said.

Officials advise skiers to “expect the same snow quality as middle earth” and the length of this run will be around the same as well.

Glieberman emphasized that this new terrain will also be a step up, as far as the snow is concerned. "It's new terrain to explore, it's two miles from the base area, and it gets some of the most consistent, best snow, flat out. It will have some of the longest runs with the longest season. It will hold up well in the spring."

From the sounds of it, winter can't come fast enough for skiers of Mount Bohemia
