Roslyn School District Announces New Roles & Appointments for 24-25 School Year
The Roslyn School District is pleased to announce several new roles and appointments for the 24-25 school year. Harbor Hill Elementary School Assistant Principal Justin Gabrus will transition to the role of Assistant Principal at Roslyn Middle School. Mr. Gabrus joined the district in 2021. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Childhood Education from SUNY Old Westbury, and his Master of Science at Touro College. He also holds several certifications, including, School Building Leadership, Childhood Education, and Literacy.

Recent Cyber Attacks Threaten Hudson Valley, New York Infrastructure
The Hudson Valley has fallen victim to a slew of cyber attacks in recent months, compromising important information from both local organizations and individuals. Cyberattack complaints in New York state increased 53% between 2016 and 2022, jumping from 16,426 incidents in 2016 to 25,112 in 2022, according to the FBI. The number of attacks targeting critical infrastructure in New York state nearly doubled to 83 in the first half of 2023 compared to 48 during the entirety of 2022 according to a report released by State Comptroller Thomas P. Governor Hochul Announces Double-Digit Declines in Shooting Incidents, Overall Reported Crime on Long Island
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced continued progress in bringing down gun violence and overall crime on Long Island. Shooting incidents with injury decreased 44 percent as reported by the Nassau, Suffolk and Hempstead Police Departments, which all participate in the State's Gun Involved Violence Elimination program. Across Long Island, statistics show a 15 percent overall decrease in index crimes, as well as a 16 percent reduction in property crimes, during the first quarter of 2024. Governor Hochul also announced the investment of more than $50 million for public safety in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, the largest such State investment in history, which was included in this year's State Budget.

New York City Mayor, Eric Adams, recently announced one of the major highlights of the city’s 2025 budget, the $160 million investment to completely rebuild the 70-year-old Brownsville Recreation Center, providing a brand-new, state-of-the-art facility in Brooklyn. This comes on top of previous investments, such as the Parks Opportunity Program (POP), which offers low-income New Yorkers six-month paid opportunities and training programs to help maintain and operate city parks. The “good news for everyone, just announced here hot off the presses,” according to superintendent Stephen Gratto is that the New Paltz Central School District (NPCSD) was approved for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), a meal service option for schools to serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to all enrolled students without having to collect household eligibility applications. The grant gives all students in the NPCSD a free breakfast and lunch for the next four school years.

Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has been recognized as a 2024-25 Best Hospital by U.S. News & World Report, ranking in the top 15 in the state. SBUH climbed to a No. 12 ranking overall in New York State out of more than 153 hospitals statewide, up from No. 13 in the state last year. In addition to ranking in the top 8% overall in New York State, SBUH also rated high performing in 5 adult specialties nationwide, including Geriatrics, Neurology & Neurosurgery, Orthopedics, Urology and Pulmonology & Lung Surgery.
