Updated flooring, space reorganization and renovations are all now possible thanks to a sizable grant awarded to a Boise nonprofit .

Boise Rescue Mission Ministries was selected by Lowe’s Hometowns program to receive a grant of $121,000. It’s just one of 87 communities throughout 44 states and Washington, D.C., that $100 million in grant money will be distributed to.

The Rescue Mission grant will be used to replace worn flooring, renovate the Veterans Resource Center and organize storage for the Veterans Wing at the mission’s men’s shelter. According to the mission, the new flooring and organized space will help in the service to the hundreds of homeless veterans who need assistance.

“Serving our veterans with respect and compassion is a high priority at the mission and organizing the storage room and replacing the flooring in their rooms and hallways will show how much we, and the community, care about them,” said Rev. Bill Roscoe, president and CEO of Boise Rescue Mission Ministries. “This generous grant from Lowe’s is a great example of their commitment to serve their communities.”

The rescue mission operates two shelters in Boise and two in Nampa, serves 509 meals on a daily basis, provides emergency shelter to 246 homeless men, women and children every night, and provides programs in emergency shelter, case management, addiction recovery, employment and several other services.

Other projects the Lowe’s grants will fund include community centers and facilities for first responders and veterans.
