Boise receives ‘top distinction’ with this award

What works in Boise? A lot, apparently.

The city was recently awarded the Silver Level of What Works Cities Certification by Bloomberg Philanthropies.

Certification comes from a city’s ability to establish “exceptional data capabilities to inform policy decision-making, allocate funding, improve services, evaluate effectiveness and engage residents,” a statement from the City of Boise read.

Standard measures for the certification are based on 43 criteria. Cities that achieve between 51% and 67% of the criteria, like Boise , are awarded the silver level.

“I’m thrilled that Boise has been recognized for our data-informed approach to making life better for all Boiseans,” said Boise Mayor Lauren McLean . “Whether it’s deciding where new parks are built to meet our 10-minute-walk-to-a-park goal, measuring our progress on affordable housing or tracking the health of our river and more, we use data every day to create the most impactful and equitable city for everyone.”

Rochelle Haynes, managing director of What Works Cities Certification, said achieving the recognition “is a top distinction with a rigorous bar,” she wrote in a letter. “The City of Boise’s commitment to these practices and policies was evident through [its] completion of the assessment which measured Boise’s progress on 43 criteria outlined in the What Works Cities Standard.”
