A Saturday morning Boise staple will be cut short this weekend as dangerously hot temperatures bake the Treasure Valley.

The Boise Farmers Market announced that it’ll close one hour earlier than usual this Saturday to protect customers and vendors from excessive heat. The market, which typically runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1500 Shoreline Drive , will start at 9 a.m. but close at noon this Saturday.

The Capital City Public Market in the Grove Plaza will also adjust its market on Saturday. The fountains in the middle of the plaza will be turned on throughout the morning, giving shoppers an easy way to cool off. Capital City Public Market Board President Meaghan Goulder said in a news release that the market will be open from its usual times of 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., but staffers may close the market early depending on weather conditions.

The National Weather Service in Boise forecasts clear skies and a high of 105 degrees on Saturday. The Weather Service also issued an excessive heat warning through Saturday, warning of “dangerously hot conditions” that “will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses.”

“Closing the market early is rare and only done after careful consideration of all factors. The safety of our vendors and shoppers is paramount,” Amber Beierle, Boise Farmers Market Executive Director, said in a news release.

Some of the products typically sold at the market, such as food items, also don’t do well in the extreme heat, according to the release. Cooling stations will be located around the farmers’ market and equipped with shade and misters to keep people cool.

The market hasn’t announced plans for further Saturdays, but high temperatures above 100 degrees are forecast for Boise at least through Wednesday, the furthest the Weather Service forecasts.
