Weeks ago? One restaurant here. Now this chain has 3 in Boise area ‘test’ — and more soon

The Marco’s Pizza invasion has begun.

After announcing ambitious plans for the Boise area, the Toledo-based chain is putting its money — and pepperoni — where its mouth is.

A new Marco’s location opened Tuesday at 3135 E. Overland Road in Meridian. Featuring the chain’s latest bells and whistles, it’s the second Treasure Valley location launched in weeks. This spring, Marco’s also opened at 2609 S. 10th Ave. in Caldwell. Another is expected this summer at 1222 N. Meridian Road in Kuna. And site selection is underway for a fourth new Treasure Valley location, a Marco’s publicist said earlier this year. In addition, Marco’s already has a restaurant opened in 2018 at 4865 N. Ten Mile Road in Meridian.

Describing Boise as “a strong growth market,” the brand aspires to “up to 12 locations” in the valley, according to a news release.

Never heard of Marco’s? The chain operates more than 1,200 locations, with the majority in the eastern half of the United States. But it’s growing quickly in the West. Founded in 1978, Marco’s is a takeout- and delivery-focused operation not unlike Pizza Hut or Domino’s.

Large pies go for as little as $8.99 on special. The brand is “known for its dough made from scratch and its three fresh signature cheeses.” In addition to traditional pizza, the menu features pizza bowls, subs, salads, sides (cheesy bread and wings) and desserts.

Calling the Boise area a “test bed for forward-thinking innovations,” Marco’s considers the new corporate-owned Meridian location as a prototype.

Marco’s Pizza’s new store design in Meridian “was meticulously crafted to cater to all audiences, ensuring both ergonomic and aesthetic enhancements,” said Gerardo Flores, chief development officer for the brand. Marco's Pizza

“Whether guests are looking for a contactless ordering process, a quick option while on the go, a face-to-face encounter, a Marco’s delivery, or a third-party delivery option, this new store design features a more seamless and efficient process for all,” the news release says.

    Among the highlights?

    ▪ Pick-up door and pick-up window options — for a “frictionless” experience.

    ▪ In-store QR code/mobile access on a designated wall for customers.

    ▪ New equipment that includes “testing of warming racks and pizza lockers that hold multiple orders of hot pizza with quick and secure access, designed specifically for pick-up and third-party delivery needs.”

    ▪ Strategically placed beverage coolers for add-on purchases.

    ▪ A “warm and welcoming” waiting area for customers.

“Our new store design marks a pivotal moment in our brand’s evolution, serving as a cornerstone for our growth and the next chapter of our journey,” said Tony Libardi, Marco’s Pizza co-CEO and president. “This redesign is not just about aesthetics; it’s about enhancing the customer experience, improving operational efficiency, and creating a welcoming environment that reflects our commitment to quality and innovation. As we continue to expand, these new stores will set the standard for our brand, showcasing our dedication to excellence and our vision for the future.”
