Despite the smoke hanging around the Treasure Valley, crews are making headway fighting some of the wildfires in Idaho and Eastern Oregon.

Here is a rundown of where those blazes stand:

    ▪ The Bench Lake Fire , which threatened historic Redfish Lake Lodge, was 85% contained as of Tuesday morning, according to InciWeb , a government website that tracks wildfires. The human-caused fire has burned nearly 2,600 acres in the Sawtooth National Recreation Area about 8 miles south of Stanley.

Continued progress on controlling the fire allowed officials to reopen the Redfish Lake Recreation Complex to the public on Tuesday. Recreationists were asked to be aware of fire personnel and equipment still working in the area along Idaho Highway 75, and to keep a distance of 300 feet from the west shore of Redfish Lake.

Officials estimate the Bench Lake Fire will be fully contained by Aug. 21.

    ▪ The massive Durkee Fire has consumed 293,390 acres since it was sparked by lightning on July 17 about a mile west of Durkee, Oregon.

Officials were forced to close portions of Interstate 84 in Oregon last week because of the fire, which is now 51% contained, with an estimated containment date of Aug. 8. This fire has been sending smoke into Southwest Idaho for well over a week.

The Baker County Sheriff’s Office provides evacuation updates for the Durkee Fire on its Facebook page .

    ▪ The Cow Valley Fire , which started July 11 northwest of Vale, Oregon, had burned 133,490 acres as of Monday morning. However, the blaze is 99% contained, with an estimated containment date of Aug. 3, which is Saturday.

Officials say the fire was human-caused and remains under investigation.

    ▪ There are two other fires burning in the Boise National Forest. The Wapiti Fire , which sits at 50 acres with 0% containment, forced the evacuation of Grandjean residents. A 100-acre blaze 35 miles northeast of Lowman and adjacent to Idaho Highway 21, called the Bull Trout Fire , forced the closure of the encompassing Bull Trout Lake area and was 0% contained as of Sunday.

    ▪ Lightning sparked two fires near Lake Cascade last week. The Boulder Fire , 9 miles southwest of Cascade, has grown to 324 acres and remains 0% contained. The Wolf Creek Fire has burned 909 acres on the west-facing slope of West Mountain in the Payette National Forest and is also 0% contained.

InciWeb shows 17 fires burning in Idaho. The largest of those is the nearly 29,000-acre Gwen Fire burning in Latah County. It was started by lightning on July 24 and is 0% contained.
