WEST LAFAYETTE — Purdue athletic director Mike Bobinski is settling in for one final year of business as usual in college sports — and preparing for a major shift. 46 Days Until Purdue Football: Sterling Smith
With 46 days remaining until kickoff, we highlight a promising young transfer. Transfer safety Sterling “Stu” Smith arrives in West Lafayette from College of the Holy Cross (the one in Massachusetts not to be confused with Indiana’s Holy Cross College). That’s correct: team who loves gold added a silver Smith to the vault. A two-star prospect out of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis, Smith enrolled at Holy Cross after being recruited by the service academies and several Ivy League schools. That’s a good sign in itself in terms of him clearly being a smart dude. Smith’s growth as a defensive...
Purdue basketball nonconference challenges come with potentially lucrative payoff
INDIANAPOLIS -- Purdue basketball did not schedule like a team shrinking from the departure of a historic talent. Zach Edey may be gone, but six of the team’s top eight scorers return. The Boilermakers needed both a challenge worthy of that reputation and a proving ground for a team adapting to a post-Edey identity.
Caskenette drafted by Marlins, to continue Purdue legacy with the team
After becoming one of the most successful catchers in program history since he transferred to Purdue in 2022, Connor Caskenette was rewarded with a shot at a pro-career. Caskenette was selected with the 19th pick in the 12th round and 364th overall Tuesday night. He’s the fifth Boilermaker since 2006 to be drafted by the Marlins. Pitchers Jay Buente (drafted in 2006, MLB debut in 2010) and Nick Wittgren (drafted in 2012, MLB debut in 2016) both reached the big leagues with the Marlins.
West Lafayette, IN USA
My family was camping at Prophetstown State Park in West Lafayette/Battle Ground, IN. On our last night of a 5 night trip (July 13), my son wanted to go fishing in their fishing pond. To get there, one has to walk on the popular bike trail. As we were walking, I looked over and saw something hanging on a shrub. I almost didn’t walk over to see what it was since my hands were full, but then felt a pull to go look. It was a beautiful quilted heart! Thank you to the person who took the time to make my heart and hide it. It’s going to hang in our camper as we continue visiting all the beautiful parks Indiana has to offer!
