RENSSELAER — The Rensselaer Central School Board set the stage for a new school year by tackling a number of requests during a 45-minute meeting on July 16. The corporation will hold a new teacher meeting in the board conference room at Van Elementary on Monday, Aug. 5 from 9-11 a.m., with a staff orientation meeting set for Tuesday, Aug. 6 at 8 a.m. in the high school auditorium. Students will report to their respective schools on Thursday, Aug. 8.
Lafayette Symphony Orchestra names first African American conductor
The Lafayette Symphony Orchestra has selected a new conductor and artistic director after a two-year search. WFYI’s Abriana Herron spoke with Kellen Gray, who has a background as conductor, professional violinist and beekeeper. Gray will become the orchestra’s first African American conductor and the second Black artistic leader of a professional orchestra in Indiana.
