Wins and losses came in bunches this week for the Tigers on the diamond. (Note: Games covered June 25-30)

    Baseball (12-13)

The past week spelled trouble for the Tigers, going 0-3 in a three game stretch against conference rivals who got revenge for previous meetings this year.

Beating Bondurant-Farrar (18-7) by a score of 4-3 on the first week of June, the Bluejays fought back with a 7-2 win over the Tigers on June 24. Two days later, the Huskies from Winterset (10-12) cruised to a 13-5 win to avenge an 18-1 loss to the Tigers three weeks earlier. And lastly, Carlisle (8-17) notched a 2-1 victory in extras for redemption over their previous one-run loss to the Tigers.

It was a nearly flawless outing for Grant Rychnovsky in the final game, getting in a full seven innings. With 11 strikeouts to his name, he even logged two outs in the eighth inning before the Wildcats came across for the winning run. Carlisle was able to squeeze out two runs on just five runners Rychnovsky allowed on base.

Meanwhile, the Tigers were able to safely get aboard on seven times, led by a two-hit performance from Rhylan Stine-Smith and Grant Jansen. The former was able to get the game’s first run on a Wildcat fielding error. Stine-Smith also had a highlight against Bondurant, driving in two of the team’s runs on sacrifice hits.

    Softball (24-8)

With three crucial wins in the conference, the Tigers clinched runner-up status in the Raccoon River Conference this week, collecting five wins in total this past week for arguably the team’s most impressive stretch of the season.

On ADM’s slate was five ranked teams in the June 26 rankings, each providing a resume-boost for the Tigers.

Class 5A’s No. 5 Johnston and No. 9 Des Moines Roosevelt lost by scores of 6-1 and 8-0, most recently. And 4A threw a trio of RRC opponents ADM’s way, with No. 11 Bondurant falling 7-1, No. 10 Winterset coming up short 6-5 and No. 9 Carlisle losing 3-2 at the hands of the Tigers.

It was the last of that grouping that sealed the deal on the Tigers earning second place in the conference, putting third place Carlisle one-game out of contention. Meanwhile, North Polk sits atop the league with a perfect record.

Against Winterset, the Tigers walked off with the winning run in the seventh inning while they also earned a one-run advantage in extra innings on the road against Carlisle. It was the bottom of the order Olivia Wyant and Aniston Tollari that helped make the biggest difference at the plate, each driving in a run, proving the roster formidable top-to-bottom.
