We should all know better by now, but I nearly fell victim to a new package delivery text scam the other day, and I don't want the same thing to happen to you. Here's one thing I can guarantee about me; if you call or text me from a number I don't recognize, I will not answer or respond...ever. My notorious call screening usually saves me from phone scammers, BUT, when I have been waiting for over two weeks for Japanese Beetle traps I desperately need to arrive, receiving a text about a delivery issue almost had me falling hook, line, and sinker into the scammer's trap.

Fairfield Woman Arrested After Leaving Kids in Car
(Fairfield) – A Fairfield woman is behind bars on felony charges following the death of a one-year-old boy. According to the Illinois State Police, on July 14th they were requested by the Fairfield Police Department to assist in the death investigation of a 1-year-old male and the severe injury of another 2-year-old male. Both children were reported to have been left in a vehicle for “multiple hours.” On July 16th, after a thorough investigation, the Wayne County State’s Attorney’s Office charged thirty-six-year-old Adreian Hooper on the Class 2 Felony charge of Involuntary Manslaughter, the Class 3 Felony charge of Endangering the Life of a Child Resulting in Death, the Class 4 Felony charge of Reckless Conduct, and Endangering the Life of a Child. Hooper is currently being held at the Wayne County Jail.

In just 9 minutes, Carmi leaders authorized spending of more than $150,000 including $58,500 to TriKote, LLC through Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity Rebuild Illinois funds for water tank painting, an engineering bill for the same project totaling just over $9,000, $34,000 to Wiggs Excavating for water system improvements, an administration bill for those improvements coming to $941 and change, and a Brown and Roberts engineering pay request of $28,080 for a job on Saunders Avenue and Meadow Street.
