Tornado Warnings Around the Tri-Counties Illinois
A Radar indicated tornado warning has been issued for parts of Rock Island, Mercer, Whiteside and Henry Counties. The warning is currently from the Quad Cities to Atkinson but the warning is expected to extend southeast. VERY strong winds have been confirmed with these storms. Funnel clouds have been spotted but any possible spin-up may be rain-wrapped. Stay alert and keep a device with you to stay up-to-date with warnings. Update: Galva, Annawan, and Hoopole are in the extended warning area. UPDATE: 7:28 PM, huge spin-up north of Preemption, headed east towards Sherrard and Orion.
Special Airline For Dogs Now Flies Out Of Illinois
If you love traveling with your dog, there is now a new and better option flying out of Illinois. Don't get me wrong, I love animals, especially my pets. I just don't understand how people bring them on vacation and travel with the little creatures. Manly, because it's not easy. The National Weather Service is the government agency we all rely upon for up-to-the-second information particularly in emergency situations like severe thunderstorms and tornado outbreaks. But what happens when NWS forecasters are in the line of fire for a storm? That was the situation facing the NWS office in Chicago last night (July 15, 2024) as a summer storm spawned a tornado outbreak across the region.

(OLNEY/NEWTON) As a line of showers and thunderstorms dropped southeastward into our downstate area this morning, we’ll somewhat dry out by later today before a second round of rain chances is expected by later this evening and overnight. Therefore, a Flood Watch has been issued for all of our listening area through tonight. After the rain ends by tomorrow morning, our sky will clear and we’ll then stay dry for the rest of the work week and through the weekend as well, plus some less humid air moves in for the next several days. Stay tuned for updates and monitor a NOAA Weather Alert Radio for forecast details.
