Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On July 16, 2024, Missoula Police Department Officers responded to a gas station in the 1500 block of Toole Ave. Officers were informed that a 911 caller had reported that a male had pulled a knife on another person. Massive Missoula area subdivision garners initial approval
A standalone community with its own farm and potentially hundreds of homes at the Wye west of Missoula was initially approved by county officials this week. The Missoula Consolidated Planning Board unanimously approved the Grass Valley Gardens subdivision on Tuesday, and the Missoula County Commissioners will consider the project on August 8. The subdivision includes the first four phases of a larger development and includes 445 residential units and seven commercial lots.
Midweek heat elevates wildfire risk
The scattering of small fires on Monday night might get some more siblings as a thunderstorm system moves across much of northwest Montana Wednesday. The developing weather pattern may also prompt NorthWestern Energy to activate its new Public Safety Power Shutoff policy. The power utility announced it was in “monitoring” stage on Tuesday, opening a 72-hour window of notice that it may turn off electrical service if fire conditions warrant. NWE’s strategy moves through monitoring, watch, warning, and alert — the stage where a power outage is scheduled for a specific area.
Billings Clinic debuts new mobile oxygenation system
Billings Clinic earlier this month transported its first patient using its new mobile extracorporeal membrane oxygenation system. The Clinic, along with Community Medical Center, announced earlier this year it was creating the mobile ECMO program and that it would be the first in the state. The patient who was transported with it initially arrived at Community Medical Center in Missoula with severe respiratory failure early in July.
Aggregation of lots sets city up for purchase of poplar farm
(Missoula Current) A collection of lots off Mullan Road would be realigned under a request by the property’s owner, making them more marketable for future development. The city also has expressed interest in one the parcels, which currently houses the wastewater treatment plant and the poplar farm. The parcels are all currently owned by the Clouse family.

Robert Allen Hawkins
Robert Allen Hawkins, a long-time Missoula, MT, dentist and outdoor enthusiast, passed away on Saturday, July 13, 2024. He was 97. He died at home surrounded by his family. He was born on July 30, 1926 in Helena, MT, to Thomas Lee Hawkins, a Helena physician, and Harriet Laughlin Hawkins. Two other children included Janet, and Thomas. Bob grew up spending lots of time outdoors, skiing, hiking and water skiing around the Helena area and at the family cabin on Lindbergh Lake. He played football in high school. Bob graduated from the University of Montana and then dental school at the University of Washington.
