    Music fills the air this week in Richmond, from a diversity of genres and FREE performances, with plenty of learning opportunities sprinkled amongst the tunes. In “What’s Booming RVA: Lyrical and Esoteric.”

    Aug. 15, 8 p.m., at The Tin Pan, Richmond

    The popular country musician comes to RVA. You can expect to hear her country tunes, but the talented artist has made albums of modern swing and jazz, too. Comes see why she has sold more than 4 million records.

    “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”

    Aug 16 and 17, 7 p.m. both days, at Dogwood Dell at Byrd Park, Richmond

    As part of the Festival of Arts at Dogwood Dell, SPARC Youth Performing Arts presents the beloved classic cartoon in musical theater form. FREE.

    Outdoor Summer Concert

    Aug. 18, 6 to 7:30 p.m., at Agecroft Hall & Gardens, Richmond

    Richmond Concert Band presents an “Elements” themed concert, with songs inspired by earth, fire, water, wind and more. Family-friendly, with an eclectic mix of musical styles and popular songs. The concert will take place on the front lawn. (Rain date, Aug. 26.) FREE.

    Summer Nights at the Perk: Garden Variety String Band

    Aug. 21, 6 to 8 p.m., at Perkinson Center, Chester

    Music inspired by old-time, folk, and bluegrass, plus drinks, food, and art activities. FREE, registration required.

    “This Fierce People: The Untold Story of America’s Revolutionary War in the South”

    Aug. 22, noon, live-streaming (FREE) and in-person (fee), at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, Richmond

    The most lauded battles for American independence did not lead to the surrender at Yorktown. Author Alan Pell Crawford tells of fierce battles fought in the South that made up the central theater of military operations in the latter years of the Revolutionary War and the heroic, unsung patriots who helped win the war.
