BOONE, N.C. ( QUEEN CITY NEWS ) — A man driving an ATV has died after hitting a deer late Saturday night, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Around 11 p.m. on Saturday, July 6, officials responded to the crash on Briarwood Lane near Big Hill Road.

A Suzuki four-wheeler was going west on Briarwood Lane before it hit a deer in the roadway, causing the driver to lose control and overturn, officials said.

Carl Scott Norris, 38, was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. Highway patrol says Norris was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

Investigators don’t believe speed and alcohol were contributing factors in the incident. Briarwood Lane Road was closed for about two hours during the on-scene investigation.
