    Small earthquake hits NC near Boone

    CEDAR ROCK, N.C. (WNCN) — A small earthquake was detected in North Carolina on Sunday morning just a few miles away from Boone and Cedar Rock.

    According to the United States Geological Survey, the 2.2 magnitude quake happened around 8:25 a.m. about 8 miles away from Cedar Rock and 14 miles southeast of Boone.

    The quake was about 4 miles deep. This quake is one of several that has hit the state in a matter of months. A number of quakes have been recorded in the upper western part of the state near Sparta right by the Virginia border.

    A quake was also recorded near Charlotte in early May.
