AFD Squad is Top Fundraiser in the Climb for Air
–Members of the Algona Fire Department were recently awarded a traveling trophy as the top fundraisers at an event that supports the American Lung Association. The Fight for Air climb is a fundraising effort that benefits people with lung disease that literally fight for every breath they take. DES MOINES – The popular Trees for Kids grant program is accepting applications through August 26. Grantees can be awarded up to $2,500 to purchase trees and mulch. All trees for this program must be planted on public community grounds (park, community center, public school, etc.) Youth are required to be engaged in the process, most often helping to plant the trees on site.
Fireworks Ordinances for the Main Towns of Guthrie County
The 4th of July is this week, and residents of the major towns of Guthrie County need to remember the ordinances related to fireworks. In Guthrie Center and Panora, fireworks are not allowed within city limits. For Stuart, fireworks are allowed from June 1st to July 8th, and can only be lit on private property. Additionally, fireworks can only be shot off between the hours of 9am and 10pm, except for July 4th and the Saturdays and Sundays directly preceding and following the holiday, when they are allowed between 9am and 11pm for Stuart residents to remember.
