Bill Moyer takes a victory lap after winning the mid-season title at Des Moines. Des Moines, Iowa (July 5, 1969) – Des Moines’ Bill Moyer squeezed his 1968 Corvette past Lem Blankenship’s 1965 Plymouth on the final turn of the 32nd lap, then coasted to the mid-season late model championship at the Iowa state Fairgrounds before 7,957 fans.

ST. MARYS – A nine-run first inning for Martensdale-St. Marys was the undoing for the GMG baseball team as the Wolverines fell 13-5 to the Blue Devils on Thursday, June 27. GMG (6-16) struck for two runs in the game’s first half inning before the Blue Devils (20-7) answered in kind. Cooper Oberbroeckling was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the home team, which totaled 12 hits and collected 12 total walks from GMG pitchers.

ADM Baseball Shuts Out North Polk for Huge RRC Win
The Adel-DeSoto-Minburn Baseball team garnered their 14th win, with a big conference victory versus North Polk on Wednesday. The Tigers were shutout by the Comets in their previous two matchups, but defeated North Polk 7-0 last night in Adel. ADM scored one run in the first inning, two in the second, two in the third, and two in the fourth as they held the Comets scoreless for only the second time this season. Rhylan Stine-Smith finished 1-3 with a two-run RBI Triple, with Grant Rychnovsky going 1-3 with an RBI Double.
Reminder of Ordinances for Fireworks in Guthrie County
The Fourth of July may have passed, but some may still be celebrating with fireworks. Residents of the main towns in Guthrie County need to remember what their town’s ordinances are for fireworks. For Stuart, fireworks are allowed from June 1st to July 8th, and can only be lit on private property. Additionally, fireworks can only be shot off between the hours of 9am and 10pm, except for July 4th and the Saturdays and Sundays directly preceding and following the holiday, when they are allowed between 9am and 11pm for Stuart residents to remember. Guthrie Center and Panora both do not permit fireworks within city limits.

Farmland Leasing and Management Workshops to address setting fair cash rents
ALTOONA – Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is conducting a dozen in-person farmland lease meetings in Central Iowa in early August.
