Newton First Aid Squad to Host First Blood Drive of the Year
NEWTON, NJ—The Newton First Aid squad is holding another blood drive as they do throughout the year. The event will take place on Friday, August 2, from 2 through 6:30 p.m. at the Newton First Aid Squad located at 68 Sussex Street. “Blood is one of the scarcest sources and does not have an alternative. Annual Canal Walk & Roll Events in Franklin Township
SOMERSET, NJ - Residents and visitors are invited to participate in the annual Canal Walk & Roll events. These events provide an opportunity for the community to stroll or roll along the scenic canal roadways in a traffic-free environment.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER The Canal Walk & Roll North will take place on Sunday, July 28, from 10 am to 4 pm, and the Canal Walk & Roll South will follow on Sunday, August 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For the Canal Walk & Roll North, Canal Road will be closed to traffic from East Millstone to Butler Road. However, residents within these locations will have vehicle access, so participants are advised to proceed with caution. For the Canal Walk & Roll South, Canal Road will be closed to traffic from Griggstown Causeway to Route 518. 9 injured in escalator fire at JFK Airport in New York City; hundreds evacuated from terminal
At least nine people sustained minor injuries when an escalator at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City caught fire early Wednesday, authorities said. More than 900 travelers were evacuated from Terminal 8 at around 7 a.m. ET after people reported smoke filling the area, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said in a statement. ASBURY PARK — A man who admitted to sexually torturing and killing his pet cat received a maximum five-year sentence in prison. Bani Mezquititla, 19, of Asbury Park, was arrested in March 2023 after a "concerned citizen" brought a dead cat to Asbury Park police headquarters, according to Monmouth County Prosecutor Raymond Santiago. The cat named Ellie belonged to Mezquititla and had suffered greatly before its death.
