BORDENTOWN TWP. — The township's Planning Board has approved construction of a Route 130 retail center that will mix a grocery or retail store, a daycare, and a restaurant.
The project requires the developer to clear away five single-story buildings on the highway north of Groveville Road.
A pool company formerly used one of the properties at the 6.8-acre site.
The application states the developer plans an approximately 25,000-square-foot grocery/retail store pad.
Additionally, there will be an approximately 10,500-square-foot daycare pad; and an approximately 6,250-square-foot “quick service” restaurant pad with drive-through lanes and that could accommodate two users. The term “quick service” often is interchanged with “fast food,” such as a McDonald’s.
Future tenants and a construction schedule are not set, said attorney Christopher K. Costa, who represents developer A & C Land Management LLC. The company, based in Middlesex County, already owns the land off the southbound highway.
The proposal passed the township Planning Board last week.

Costa said the next step is getting a road access permit from the New Jersey Department of Transportation. That kind of review typically takes several months, he said.
“No construction can take place before NJDOT approval; however, we are very grateful for the planning board approval and believe that the project with be a contribution to the community,” Costa said.
The site is in the township’s Highway Commercial Zone.
