BORDENTOWN, NJ —If you are a Bordentown City or Bordentown Township resident and are experiencing low water pressure, you aren't alone, and the heat is to blame.

"Due to the ongoing high heat and drought conditions, our Water Department is experiencing significantly increased water demand," said Bordentown City via a Nixle Alert and Bordentown Township on its social media channels on Monday, July 22. "Consequently, some residents may notice a decrease in their usual water pressure."

Officials went on to give residents 10 simple steps to save water this summer, courtesy of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, as water supplies typically decline in the summer, while water use increases:

    • Water flowers and landscaping with water harvested in a rain barrel connected to a downspout.
    • Use 30 to 50 percent less water with drip irrigation and micro-sprays compared to sprinklers.
    • Only water when needed. In New Jersey, most landscapes need only 1 inch of water per week. This often comes from dew and rainfall.
    • If you have a pool, purchase a water-saving filter.
    • Cover your pool when not in use to reduce evaporation rates.
    • Avoid recreational toys that require a constant stream of water.
    • Raise your lawnmower blade to a least 3 inches to promote deeper grass roots, which hold water better.
    • Use water from dehumidifiers and air conditioners to water your plants.
    • Use native plants that need less water.
    • Group plants together based on water needs.
