    BORDENTOWN, NJ — While a new month is now ahead of us, let's look back at some of the top "feel good" stories to come out of Bordentown in July 2024!

    Girl Scouts Troop 24126 Spreading Positivity at Bordentown Regional Middle School Through Bronze Award Project : A group of Bordentown Girl Scouts is using this summer to spread positivity to students at Bordentown Regional Middle School (BRMS) when they return to the classroom this Fall. Eight members of Girl Scout Troop 24126 are currently working towards their Bronze Award by painting inspiring quotes on the walls of bathrooms and locker rooms of BRMS.

    Non-Profit Aims to Transform Bordentown City Into Destination for Outdoor Sculpture and Art :  While Bordentown City is famous for its historic figures, homes and sites, a non-profit organization is aiming to make the one-square mile town a destination for art and sculpture. The Bordentown Sculpture Foundation (BSF) is an educational 501(c)3 that "hopes to transform this walkable, attractive and historically-significant downtown into a center for outdoor sculpture in the great tradition of thousands of years of public art around the globe," says Vincent Schino, the organization's Founder and President. That mission was accomplished on July 2, as three sculptures by renowned American artist Seward Johnson were installed throughout the City.

Grads Excelled In College Sports This Past Season : Several Bordentown Regional High School graduates continued their academic as well as their athletic careers at the collegiate level with pride and determination right here in New Jersey and beyond. Let’s take a glance at the outstanding performances of some of those student athletes.

    Florence Township's Curtis Thompson Heads to Paris for 2024 Olympic Games : Burlington County residents have a chance to cheer on two hometown athletes at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Curtis Thompson of Florence will be competing in the javelin and Paxten Aaronson of Medford will be competing in soccer for Team USA. Before heading to Paris, Thompson visited several Florence departments and shared stories with the Township's police officers, firefighters and administrative staff about his competition journey through his high school, college and professional career. On Tuesday night, Thompson was escorted by the Florence Township Police and Fire Departments throughout the streets of Florence as he departed New Jersey on his way to Paris.

    Bordentown Township Police Department Welcomes Newest Officer : The Bordentown Township Police Department welcomed its newest officer to the ranks last month after his graduation from the Police Academy. Ptl. Robert Sparano graduated on July 11 from the Mercer County Police Academy's Basic Police Recruit Class #31-24 and was celebrated by family, friends, elected officials and fellow law enforcement representatives at a ceremony held at Mercer County Community College.

    A Sub Above: Jersey Mike's Coming to Bordentown Township : Sandwich-lovers have something to look forward to, as a popular chain will be opening a location in Bordentown Township. Jersey Mike's will be opening a store at 266 Dunns Mill Road in Bordentown Township, according to a "Coming Soon" sign posted in the window as well a listing on the chain's website . The location in the Acme Commons shopping plaza was formerly home to GameStop and sits between Mangia Brick Oven Pizza and Grill and T&G Best Spa & Nails.

    Temple B'nai Abraham in Bordentown City Welcomes New Associate Rabbi : A new Associate Rabbi will be joining Temple B'nai Abraham in Bordentown City. Aviva Marchione will be taking on the role, according to an announcement by the synagogue. "I am honored and excited to join Temple B'nai Abraham," said Rabbi Aviva. "I look forward to partnering with Rabbi Julie, the synagogue board, and the entire congregation to create meaningful and impactful Jewish experiences. Together, we will continue to build a strong, vibrant, and inclusive community."

    Bordentown's Evan Abreu Honored for Eagle Scout Achievement by Township Committee : Bordentown Township resident Evan Abreu, 18, earned the highest level of honor possible for a Boy Scout after successfully completing his Eagle Scout project, which benefited his school, Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, from where he recently graduated. He was honored with a Mayoral Proclamation from Bordentown Township Mayor Eugene Fuzy during the July 15 meeting of the Bordentown Township Committee. Evan officially accepted his medal for his Eagle Scout project at his Court of Honor Ceremony held on July 10.

    Bordentown's Three Newest Firefighters Graduate from Burlington County Fire Academy : Consolidated Fire Association is celebrating the achievement of its newest firefighters, as they graduated last month from the Burlington County Fire Academy. George Kalargheros, Ryan Engler and Franklin Engler were among the 30 new firefighters welcomed to the ranks of the Burlington County Fire Service during the Fire Academy’s Graduation and Certificate Ceremony, which took place on July 16 at the Westampton campus of the Burlington County Institute of Technology.

    Bordentown Schools Receive $238K in State Aid for Improvement Projects : The New Jersey School Administration said that two grants totaling $238,000 have recently been executed for the Bordentown Regional School District through the SDA’s Regular Operating District (ROD) grant program. Specifically, Bordentown Regional High School will undertake the HVAC system upgrades that will cost $433,000. The local share of the project will be $259,800 with the state grant totaling $173,200. Meanwhile, a similar project at the MacFarland Elementary School will cost $162,000 overall, paid for by a local share of $97,200 and a state grant of $64,800.

    Bordentown City, Fieldsboro Each Receive $250K in Funds Under State Budget : State Senator Troy Singleton highlighted funding secured for Bordentown City and Fieldsboro in the state budget during stops on his "State Budget Tour" last month. Singleton visited the two municipalities on July 12 and spoke with elected officials about the money, in which both Bordentown City and Fieldsboro will receive $250,000 each for improvements to the towns.
