EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) – Six undocumented migrants were apprehended and a 19-year-old man was arrested and is facing charges of human smuggling and evading arrest after a brief pursuit and collision with another vehicle on Monday morning, Sept. 2 in Northwest El Paso, according to Texas Department of Public Safety.

At about 11:40 a.m. on Monday, a DPS trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop on an SUV. The driver tried to evade the trooper near Artcraft Road in Northwest El Paso, DPS said.

The driver ran a traffic light at the intersection of South Desert Boulevard and Artcraft and struck a pickup truck, DPS said.

DPS said there were six undocumented migrants in the fleeing SUV.

The driver of the pickup that was struck was checked out by emergency medical personnel at the scene but had no injuries.

One of the migrants was transported to a local hospital for minor injuries, DPS said.

All the migrants were released to Border Patrol for processing.

The driver of the SUV which tried to evade DPS has been identified as Ruben Palma, 19, of Juarez. He is being charged with human smuggling and evading arrest, DPS said.

    The investigation continues.
