    Dallas woman, 21, tried to cross border with 50 pounds of cocaine in car, CBP says

    McALLEN, Texas ( Border Report ) — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers say they intercepted 50.6 pounds of cocaine hidden inside a car trying to cross into Brownsville, Texas, from Matamoros, Mexico.

    The agency says the drugs were confiscated on Saturday at the Brownsville-Matamoros International Bridge.

    The drugs have a street value of $675,000 and were seized from a car being driven by a 21-year-old female U.S. citizen from Dallas, officers said.

    “The smuggler will be prosecuted. Outstanding job by the Brownsville Port of Entry!” Donald Kusser, director of field operations, posted Tuesday on X , formerly Twitter.

    “Our CBP officers’ unwavering diligence and dedication to keep our borders secure produced this significant seizure and our communities are safer for their efforts,” Brownsville Port Director Tater Ortiz said in a statement.

    The 2015 Chevrolet vehicle was examined by canine units at the port, as well as underwent non-intrusive inspection systems, which noted irregularities in the car.

    Twenty-two packages of drugs were hidden within the vehicle, officers said.
