What is the theme for the Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana's first glittery fundraiser?

    Christmas in July!

What was inspiration for this "Silver Bell Soiree" summer extravaganza?

Donald Trump’s Palm Beach home, Mar-A-Lago, which he lent to the Palm Beach Salvation Army free of charge for their holiday fundraiser. Though he did not attend, he did let them use it

The Northwest Louisiana event is loosely patterned after the one held by the Salvation Army of Palm Beach at Mar-a-Lago. It will be a formal black-tie event with floor-length gowns and tuxedos held at The Summit of Bossier City.

“By attending this first benefit fundraiser, it is our hope that a broad spectrum of the NW LA community will supports our efforts,” said President of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary and Gala Chair Robin Merkle.

Musical entertainment will be the Shreveport band, Charlotte's Web, with lead singer Charlotte Huston. Also in the band is guitarist Nick Tingle, bass guitarist Billy Travis and Keith Brazzel on the drums. With sound and lighting engineer Nick Huston the upbeat well-known classic rock selection of songs is sure to get people on the dance floor.

Dinner will be served by Lagniappe Catering known for its soul food with a Cajun twist by Executive Chef Duane C. Jones. Drinks will be available at a cash bar.

A selection of items will be available for bids at the silent auction, but none will shine brighter than the $6,500 Diamond and Tanzanite bracelet donated by Lockhart Jewelers. The eight Tanzanite gems are bluer than the waters of Palm Beach.

During the event, a small program highlighting The Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana's programs, services, and mission will be presented. “The Salvation Army of Northwest Louisiana is vital to individuals and families in crisis,” said Merkle. “The corps assists with hot meals, food donations, shelter, clothing, and coordination of other social services with no regard for gender, race, ethnicity, National origin nor religion.”

She also noted that the organization has long supported the sobriety recovery community, provides a safe environment for children through the Boys & Girls Club, holds senior citizen activities and supports veterans.
