Two men are facing charges after a violent road rage incident led to a shooting just feet from MIT’s campus Sunday.

Police responded to reports of a shooting near the MIT Sailing Pavilion on Memorial Drive around 5:15 p.m., according to Massachusetts State Police.

An initial investigation revealed that two drivers who did not know each other were involved in a road rage incident. One driver, Cesar Gutierrez, 65, of Revere allegedly hit the other, Kevin Osorio, 30, of Boston, with a blunt object.

Osorio then drew his gun and fired several shots at Gutierrez, state police say.

“Osorio possessed a license to carry at the time of the incident, and his firearm was recovered on scene along with several shell casings,” a state police spokesperson said.

Both men were taken to Massachusetts General Hospital to be treated for their serious injuries.

Both men are expected to be arraigned in Cambridge District Court when they are medically able.

The investigation appeared to be focusing on a Nissan car that seemed to have multiple bullet holes.

Multiple evidence markers were scattered across the scene. Clothes and bags were also strewn on the ground.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
