‘Scared’: Woman left beaten and bloodied after targeted home invasion in Fitchburg

Authorities are investigating an apparent home invasion on Thursday afternoon that left a victim with injuries.

Officers responding to a report of a home invasion on Blossom Street around 4:13 p.m. found an injured victim, according to Fitchburg Police.

Melanie Russell was transported to an area hospital for injuries not considered to be life-threatening. Still, she told Boston 25 News, she is pain and was left with bruises, broken bones and is afraid her attacker may come back.

Russell says two men came to her apartment, demanding a package on Tuesday, then a man and a woman arrived Thursday wearing bandanas over their face. She says the two busted down her door and began beating her.

They repeatedly punched her in the face, beat her with a crowbar and used a stun gun on her, at times covering her nose and mouth to deprive her of air, and screaming at her, she believes, for that package.

Russell told Boston 25, she has no idea who they are and what it was they were looking for. Russell says when her dog intervened, the pair ran off.

But she was left bloody and broken – treated at the hospital for several fractures in her face.

Russell, who lives with roommates, believes her dog saved her life, but she fears she’s still not safe.

“Scared. I mean, you know, where you live is supposed to be your safe spot,” Russell said. “And being right there it’s a little scary, you know.”

Police say the incident was targeted and poses no threat to the general public, although details of the crime were not immediately available.
