At least two Redditors shared their encounters with rodents in toilets in Somerville in recent months and now, a Brookline resident has reported a similar nightmare.

From trash ‘buffets’ to car wire feasts to droppings at your favorite coffee chain and toilet surprises, rats continue to infiltrate nearly every inch of the Greater Boston area.

At least two Redditors shared their encounters with rodents in toilets in Somerville in recent months. Now, a Brookline resident has reported a similar account to local media.

Betsy Childs told WBZ-TV this week about her and her partner’s efforts to deal with a rat in their toilet after two separate rodent interactions in their bathroom, including a 3 a.m. moment where a rat popped its head up from the toilet bowl before diving back down.

After contacting their landlord, who in turn, reached out to town officials, Childs and her partner sought temporary solutions including putting a hamper on top of the toilet lid to block off the main exit point for the bowl, according to the report.

“We have a precautionary flush, move the hamper, go, close the lid, and flush again thing going on right now,” Childs told WBZ. “At this point this is the rat’s house now. We should be charging it rent.”

After posting about her experiences in a social media group, Childs reportedly learned she was not the only one. Watch the WBZ interview below:
