The nonprofit religious group Revive Boston is holding a “March for Jesus” on Sunday, Aug. 25, followed by a gathering on the Boston Common.

Revive Boston expects thousands of Christians to attend, claiming it will be the largest Christian gathering on the Common since Billy Graham preached there in 1950 in a five-day “battle against sin and Satan,” which the Boston Globe says drew 50,000 people.

The event will begin with a march from Boston City Hall at 2 p.m. The march will follow Tremont Street to the Parkman Bandstand on the Boston Common. A gathering of local worship bands, speakers, and gospel singers will take place until 8 p.m.

Revive Boston says hundreds of Christians will go onto the streets to evangelize in multiple locations. The organization will also set up a baptismal tank to baptize new converts.

The event follows a spate of mass Christian gatherings and baptisms across America. A recent mass baptism happened in California, where 12,000 people took the plunge in the largest baptism in U.S. history. Earlier this year, another 1,000 people were baptized in Tampa Bay.

Revive Boston is led by Jaymz Sideras, a revivalist from London.

In a YouTube trailer for the event, Sideras says, “This is going to be historic!” and adds, “Boston will be shaken by the power of God.”

Note: This story has been clarified to denote that turnout predictions are for a Boston Common gathering.
