VP candidate Tim Walz hosting Boston fundraiser, amid other New England campaigning

Tickets start at $25,000 and suggested donations are $100,000.

Vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz is making an appearance in Boston on Wednesday at a fundraiser in Back Bay’s Newbury Boston hotel.

The fundraiser falls on the second day of Walz’s three-day solo tour, where he plans to make two more East Coast stops — in Newport, Rhode Island, and Southampton, New York — following his campaign reception in Boston.

Walz’s Massachusetts fundraiser comes after Vice President Kamala Harris’s high-profile events in the state. Harris appeared in Provincetown for her last campaign event with President Joe Biden before he dropped out of the race, and in Pittsfield after launching her own presidential campaign.

Walz’s Boston visit is another indicator of Massachusetts’ fundraising power for Democratic hopefuls. Harris’s husband, Doug Emhoff, came to Martha’s Vineyard last month to campaign for his wife and attract donors.

Massachusetts natives also have a significant impact on campaign operations, with Milton’s Alex Hornbrook serving as the DNC Committee’s 2024 executive director, and Jamaica Plain’s Jen O’Malley Dillon as the chair of Harris for President.

Mayor Michelle Wu, a delegate at the Democratic National Convention next week, told Radio Boston she plans to attend Walz’s fundraiser.

“I’m thrilled that this is the ticket in front of us and eager and excited to get to the DNC convention and make it official-official,” she said, adding that Walz “just seems like an incredibly warm, dedicated leader who knows what he’s talking about from years of experience in all different places.”
