There’s a whale-sized problem affecting the MBTA this week.

Ferry service may be slightly delayed due to a baby humpback whale in the Boston Harbor, the MBTA said. The delay should only last through Aug. 15, according to the transit agency.

Boston Harbor has been the site of multiple whale sightings in recent weeks. NBC10Boston photographer Mark Garfinkel spotted a whale breaching in the harbor on Aug. 7.

In addition, Nantucket resident Nicole Ridge sent Boston.com a picture of a whale she saw breaching in the harbor on Aug. 8.

A representative from Boston Harbor City Cruises previously told Boston.com that finding a whale in the harbor is rare, but not unprecedented. The representative said it’s important that boats keep a wide berth from the animal and do not try to approach it.
