Report: Patriots’ Javon Baker doesn’t regret Instagram Live rant about police

“Anybody that I needed to apologize to, or anything I needed to do, I already did."

Patriots rookie receiver Javon Baker addressed a live video broadcast from his Instagram account which showed him yelling about a police officer giving him a ticket at Logan Airport.

“You ain’t gonna start yelling at me and thinking I’m not fitting to yell back,” Baker said in the video. “Who does you think you is? Just because you a police officer, that don’t mean nothing, bro. With my tax dollars, I pay you. Come on, bro, you work for me.”

Baker reportedly told Pro Football Network’s Dakota Randall that he does not regret the video.

“Anybody that I needed to apologize to, or anything I needed to do, I already did,” Baker told Randall. “At the end of the day, it’s a Coach Jerod (Mayo) question.”

“I don’t know, honestly,” Baker added. “I guess more eyeballs are on me because I’m in the NFL. But if I regret anything I said, I wouldn’t have ever said it. So, I don’t regret nothing.”

“At the end of the day, it’s a Coach Mayo question.”

The Patriots disciplined Baker for the video, but the punishment did not rise to the level of him having to miss a game, Mayo said earlier this week.

“Everything that you just stated in no way represents what the organization is about, in no way represents what we are about as a team, or how Javon needs to go out there and represent himself,” Mayo said. “We’ve handled it internally. We had a great conversation. I think it’s a combination of immaturity and realizing the grand scheme, that we’re on a big stage here and you can’t do those things.”

Baker, a fourth-round pick out of Central Florida, has shown flashes this preseason and earned a spot on the 53-man roster. He made several highlight-reel catches during training camp, but has yet to show the kind of consistency that would lead him to be a bigger factor in the offense.

He had a few notable drops in games, including one on a deep ball from Drake Maye against the Eagles. He hauled in five catches during the three preseason games for 46 yards.

This Sunday’s game against the Bengals will be Baker’s NFL regular-season debut.
