Julian Edelman predicts Bill Belichick will end up coaching this NFL team

"You could just see a little jingle in Belichick’s spirit because he loved talking about those old Giants teams."

Bill Belichick has remained active in football after failing to land an NFL head-coaching gig this season — appearing on several TV broadcasts, podcasts, online shows and yes, even joining Instagram.

But even though the six-time Super Bowl Super Bowl-winning head coach is poised to be a familiar face across several forms of media in 2024, Belichick reportedly isn’t looking to just stay off the sideline and cash in on several lucrative TV deals.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Belichick would like to return to coaching in 2025, but sources noted that the former Patriots coach is expected to be “choosy” when it comes to taking the reins of a new NFL organization.

“Belichick will be able to keep a close eye on the league through his media projects, tracking its players and readying himself to coach again,” Schefter wrote.

While it remains to be seen how many coaching openings will present themselves next offseason, former Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman believes that one spot in particular would appeal to Belichick as he tries to get back into the coaching ranks.

“The real enticing one, to me, is if the New York Giants open up,” Edelman said during an appearance on FOX’s “The Herd” on Tuesday. “And I am not calling for anyone’s job. I love [Giants head coach Brian] Daboll. Daboll is my favorite. But the fate of what they’ve put on the field… You’re going to go down with that ship.”

Belichick has plenty of affinity for the Giants, as he won two Super Bowls in New York while serving as the team’s defensive coordinator under head coach Bill Parcells.

Despite winning AP NFL Coach of the Year honors in 2022 after leading the Giants to a 9-7 record, Daboll could be on the hot seat in 2024 with another lackluster season potentially in play. New York put together an underwhelming 6-11 record last season, and were blown out by Sam Darnold and the Vikings, 28-6, in Week 1 on Sunday.

While most of New York’s woes might be rooted in the poor play of QB Daniel Jones, Daboll could be an expected coaching casualty if the Giants once again plummet in the standings — potentially opening the door for Belichick to step in.

“If that opens up — I remember vividly any time we played in New York or we played the Giants, you could just see a little jingle in Belichick’s spirit because he loved talking about those old Giants teams,” Edelman added. “And he loved talking about that organization. You could tell that he loved the New York Football Giants. He just loves the Giants. So, I think, that would probably be the place he would want to go to.”

Granted, a rebuilding Giants team may not be where Belichick wants to land at this stage of his career, especially with the future Hall of Famer just 15 wins away from surpassing Don Shula for the most coaching wins in NFL history.

Still, Belichick’s appreciation for his former team might be too good to pass up if he’s set on getting back to coaching in 2025 and beyond.
