The Red Sox are reportedly set to don new threads during the 2025 season.

According to MassLive’s Chris Cotillo, the Red Sox will retire their blue alternate jerseys this offseason and will unveil a second “City Connect” jersey for next summer.

But that doesn’t mean that Boston’s popular yellow jerseys are also being placed on the clearance rack. Red Sox chief marketing officer Adam Grossman confirmed to Cotillo that those Boston Marathon-inspired jerseys will remain as a core uniform for the team moving forward.

“MLB allows Clubs who have a current City Connect jersey the ability to redesign it after several seasons,” Grossman told Cotillo. “Given the popularity of our yellow uniforms with our players and fans, we have elected to keep it as a core uniform offering for the foreseeable future. We will unveil a City Connect 2.0 uniform in 2025 and will no longer wear our blue alternate jerseys.”

As part of this jersey reshuffling for the Red Sox, Boston will have their regular home whites, alternate home reds, road grays and their yellow jerseys in their regular rotation — with the new City Connect jerseys serving as a fifth option for the team during certain games.

The blue alternate jerseys — which Boston wore when they clinched its latest World Series title in 2018 — will effectively be replaced with the new City Connects — of which a design has not yet been revealed.

During the 2024 season, the Red Sox wore their traditional home whites for every home game at Fenway Park except for Fridays (red alternates) and Saturdays (yellow City Connects). Boston wore its road grays from all road games except for Fridays, when they donned the now-retired blue alternates.

The Red Sox have had plenty of luck over the years while wearing their yellow jerseys — sporting a record of 35-13 since debuting them in 2021.
