The Red Sox have yet again been eliminated from postseason contention after a 6-1 loss to the Blue Jays on Wednesday night.

Boston’s chief baseball officer Craig Breslow discussed his priorities for the future of the team during a Thursday segment on “The Greg Hill Show.” His areas of focus for the offseason include seeking high-quality starting pitching and balancing out the lineup.

“Obviously, it’s left-handed heavy and a number of our young players who will be impacting the big league club shortly are also left-handed,” Breslow said. “We can never have enough quality starting pitching.”

“This is a team that we need to supplement,” said Breslow. “We need to add to it because we have a chance to do exactly what we’re hoping to accomplish.”

In seeking improvements to the roster, he told The Boston Globe in a recent interview that he wants to explore both free agency and also potential trades.

“We have seen the ability to be competitive in the A.L. East with a young group that’s really exciting, really dynamic,” Breslow explained to the Globe’s Alex Speier. “We’ve got to figure out what the right pieces are to add to that. I think it’s likely some of that comes via trade, because there’s only so many middle infielders and left-handed hitting outfielders we can play at any given time.”

Breslow didn’t commit to a stance on whether prospects Roman Anthony and Kristian Campbell could open next season.

“There’s a lot of excitement around these young guys,” Breslow told WEEI. “We absolutely need to improve the product we’re putting on the field.”
