Colts owner Jim Irsay responded to Bill Belichick’s joke about fake crowd noise

Jim Irsay’s response to Bill Belichick: During his appearance on the “ManningCast” on Monday Night Football, former Patriots coach Bill Belichick made a joke about the past allegations that the Colts used artificial crowd noise during a back-and-forth with co-host (and former Colts quarterback) Peyton Manning.

“I’ll tell you, Peyton, the crowd noise there at Arrowhead [Stadium] wasn’t as bad as when you guys piped in music at the RCA Dome,” Belichick told Manning during a moment in the Saints-Chiefs game.

“Then when the crowd noise skipped, then that’s how we knew they were pumping it in,” he added.

Manning laughed it off before moving on, but another Colts figurehead couldn’t help but respond.

Colts owner Jim Irsay took to social media on Tuesday to offer a reply.

“Reminder…’piped-in crowd noise’ myth —1000% fictional,” wrote Irsay, who also gave a response to the secondary Belichick statement.

“The ‘skip‘ was TV broadcast,” Irsay wrote. “We get it, though…visiting teams couldn’t believe that 60,000 in an intimate domed stadium could make that much deafening noise!”

And as much as Belichick and Patriots fans might still believe the notion that Indianapolis used piped-in noise, the official conclusion of an NFL investigation sided with Irsay.

In November 2007, the NFL and CBS gave an explanation for the audio skip.

“CBS has informed the NFL that the unusual audio moment … that fans might have heard during the Patriots-Colts telecast was the result of tape feedback in the CBS production truck and was isolated to the CBS broadcast,” an NFL spokesperson said.

“The network and the league insisted that it was in no way related to any sound within the stadium and could not be heard in the stadium.”

The Connecticut Sun lost to the Minnesota Lynx 88-77 in the decisive Game 5 of the WNBA semi-finals on Tuesday night. The Lynx now face the New York Liberty in the WNBA finals starting on Thursday at 8 p.m.
