According to police, the driver said he crashed into the back of the bus because he was unaware it had stopped to pick up passengers.

One person was injured Thursday when a driver slammed into the rear of an MBTA bus in Medford, according to police.

MBTA Transit Police said the crash happened around 9:45 a.m. near the intersection of Salem Street and Allen Court. The 39-year-old driver of a 2010 Nissan said he crashed into the back of the bus because he was unaware it had stopped to pick up passengers, Transit Police wrote in a statement posted to X.

There were 20 passengers onboard at the time, and one person was taken to the hospital after reporting an injury to their neck and back, according to Transit Police.

The Nissan was towed away from the scene.
