Charitable bail cap temporarily halted by federal judge ahead of new bail law taking effect
A federal judge has temporarily halted enforcement of a key part of a controversial cash bail law in Georgia that was set to take effect this week. The law would have restricted individuals and advocacy organizations from posting charitable bail more than three times a year, while surety bonds, used by bail bond agents, would not be capped.

Going from punk rock to the priesthood is not a common progression. Then again, Georgia band Luxury never followed the rules. A new film called Parallel Love: The Story of a Band Called Luxury follows the Toccoa and Athens group through their brush with death and, eventually, three members becoming Eastern Orthodox priests. The documentary feature makes its Georgia premiere at the Plaza Theatre in Atlanta on Wednesday, June 19 and at Ciné in Athens on Thursday, June 20.
East Macon residents return day after fire to salvage items
MACON, Ga. — A few River Park Apartments residents returned to the complex to pick up the pieces after a fire damaged their home Thursday night. According to the Macon-Bibb Fire Department, one person took themselves to the hospital after suffering from smoke inhalation. Emergency services did not have to transport anyone. The county's lead arson investigator, Captain Kyle Murray, said the fire started on one of the second floor balconies. He said it was contained to one unit.

Georgia man dies after drowning at Grand Strand beach, coroner says
MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - A Georgia man has died after being pulled from the ocean Wednesday, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office. Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard said 61-year-old Kemal Alic, of Duluth, was pulled from the ocean near the 18th Avenue South beach access on Wednesday morning and taken by EMS to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center.
