George Howell Coffee to Launch New Cafe in Back Bay’s Lyrik Development

Another tenant has been announced for Back Bay ’s upcoming retail development, situated at the intersection of Massachusetts Ave , Boylston St , and Newbury St , directly above the Massachusetts Turnpike . George Howell Coffee is getting ready to open its fourth retail cafe at Lyrik , joining the ranks of ChiCha San Chen, Avra Estiatorio , and Pink Carrot.

Founded in 2004 by George Howell , the brand’s mission is centered around identifying, sourcing, and roasting the finest quality coffees. George’s journey in the coffee industry began back in 1974 when he first started roasting coffee, leading up to his sale of 24 “The Coffee Connection” cafes to Starbucks in 1994.

At the upcoming cafe, patrons can expect a diverse menu featuring drip coffee, iced coffee, seasonal coffees, and espresso drinks. Beyond coffee, George Howell offers a selection of teas, hot chocolates, pastries, baked goods, chocolates, and energy bars.

In addition to its three existing retail locations at The Godfrey Hotel, Boston Public Market, and Newtonville, George Howell operates a roastery in Acton. This facility serves as a hub for quality control, sample evaluation, green coffee storage, order fulfillment, and experimentation with new brewing methods.

While an official opening date for the new George Howell Coffee location remains undisclosed, the cafe could welcome guests as early as fall 2024. Stay tuned for further updates as more details emerge.
